Harshbarger - Democrats to Blame for Government Shutdown

October 1, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger (TN-01) issued the following statement after Democrats rejected a clean, non-partisan, short-term continuing resolution, shutting down the federal government.

“Democrats voted to shut down the government rather than support the same straightforward, short-term extension they’ve backed time and again. Their demand for over $1 trillion in new spending, including taxpayer-funded benefits for illegals, funding for DEI and climate pet projects in foreign countries, as well as cutting the $50 billion investment in rural healthcare, is a non-starter. House Republicans advanced a clean bill to keep the lights on while negotiations continue. Democrats need a dose of reality when it comes to our national debt. The continued spending of money we do not have for things we should not be funding has to stop. They need to vote for the clean continuing resolution so the government can get back to work for the American people.” – Congresswoman Harshbarger
