KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) – Many families gathered at the Kingsport Veterans Memorial Park on Monday to honor and remember those who died serving their country.
Veterans from different wars were in attendance to pay tribute to their fallen comrades. One participant was Korean War Veteran, Arlen Hensley.
“I had, three of my lieutenants were killed and one severely wounded,” said Hensley. “And plus, others that got killed too, because of war. I was a radioman. So, I was with the lieutenants all the time.”

U.S. Rep. Diana Harshbarger, R-Kingsport, said the Durham Report released Monday confirms an investigation into former U.S. President Donald Trump and his campaign for colluding with Russia was a “hoax.”
“The 2016 Russia collusion investigation had no basis in evidence,” she said. “In other words, it was a total hoax.”

Community members gathered at the Unicoi Volunteer Fire Department in the Town of Unicoi to witness the first-ever ceremony to swear in leaders of the UVFD.
Officials present for the event included Unicoi Mayor Kathy Bullen, Unicoi Police Chief Nick Hughes, Unicoi County Emergency Management Agency Director Jimmy Erwin and Tennessee’s first district congressional representative Diana Harshbarger.
Family members of the five volunteer firefighters sworn in were also present.

U.S. Rep. Diana Harshbarger (R-TN) visited the area May 4 to speak with students at Elizabethton High School during their government class. She highlighted the importance of public service and took questions from the students.
“I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to share my experience as a legislator with students at Elizabethton High School,” said Harshbarger (T-01). “Our nation’s future depends on the success of bright minds like these right here in East Tennessee. It is more important than ever to stress the importance of public service to our future leaders.”

KINGSPORT — U.S. Rep. Diana Harshbarger, R-Kingsport, has announced that Dobyns-Bennett art student Juliet Barton won the 2023 Congressional Art Competition for the First Congressional District.
“I would like to congratulate Juliet Barton of Dobyns-Bennett High School on winning the Congressional Art Competition in Tennessee’s First District,” Harshbarger said in a news release.

BLUFF CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – U.S. Rep. Diana Harshbarger (R-TN) visited the Bluff City Town Hall on Friday to send off a group of veterans on their way to Washington D.C. as part of the Honor Flight.
After the event, Rep. Harshbarger spoke with News Channel 11 regarding various topics on Capitol Hill.
Harshbarger spoke on the recent issue of the debt ceiling legislation. The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation that would raise the debt ceiling by $1.5 trillion to avoid the country defaulting.

BLUFF CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – Another group of our nation’s heroes embarked on a journey to Washington D.C. this week.
Twenty-one local veterans took part in an ‘Honor Flight’ to the nations capital. One of the many stops for the group will be Arlington National Cemetery. This trip was completely free for the veterans.
The Honor Flight Tour departed from the Bluff City Town Hall this morning.
The Sullivan East High School Band and Color Guard all took part in the Friday morning ceremony to send-off the veterans.
