Small Business Affordability

Having been a small business owner myself, I know firsthand the impact of rising healthcare costs, and I’ve also experienced the burdensome paperwork to manage health insurance plans on the back end. Congress must address the burdens small businesses face when providing healthcare benefits to their employees, and Washington should not stand in the way of workers getting the health care coverage that’s best for them and their families. Just as important, workers should be able to take their insurance plan with them if they leave their current job.

That’s why I voted in strong favor of the CHOICE Arrangement Act (H.R. 3799) in the 118th Congress. This bill gives small businesses more flexibility to provide health insurance benefits to current and future workers, by codifying a Trump Administration rule allowing small businesses to reimburse employees for buying their own health insurance on the individual market. It also gives small businesses the opportunity, if they so choose, to shed the administrative burden of managing traditional insurance coverage. At the same time, it gives workers more options for their own health care and makes that coverage portable.

The CHOICE Arrangement Act is a major step forward on which we should build, to bring back true choice to American healthcare by enabling small businesses to provide the best care for their employees.
